Choosing Your Subject

Have you heard photographers talk about their “subject?” What is a subject in photography?

From a photographer’s perspective, a subject is the main focus of a photograph. Ask yourself, what are you trying to capture? Do you want to preserve the exact moment that the light touches most of the leaves of the trees at the park? Do you want to capture the smile of a bride as she walks down the aisle? Or do you want to see the still image of a shoe that was left alone on the grass in your photograph?

These are your subjects. These are the very things that you are trying to capture in your image. Your ability to choose your subject and how to make it alive and perfect will help make those photos real and wonderful.

One of the things that you can do to hone your skill in choosing the right subject is to talk to a professional photographer, just like Russell Shakespeare. Professionals are certainly adept when it comes to choosing the right subject. They can give you a lot of tips on how to approach every type of subject.

One thing that you may want to do is to start with a specific subject in mind. What is it that you like to take photos of? Do you like to take photos of animals, inanimate things, plants, birds, or children? Once you are able to ascertain the kind of subject that you prefer, then you might start taking shots at this point in time and develop your photography skills in relation to your chosen subject.

Choose the Right Photographers Agency – Here’s How

If you find yourself often in a quandary because you don’t know where to find the right photographer, the best option that you can take is to contact a photographers agency. Now the problem is where will you find one and how will you know if that agency is the best out there.

First, try to search for an agency online. There are many agencies out there and for sure, you can find one that will be able to provide you with the right photographer.

Check the credentials of the agency. Has it been in existence for a long time? Does it handle several photographers or only a couple? One of the primary determinants of a reliable agency is that it is handling many professional photographers. This means that it doesn’t only have five or ten but more than that. Check out the names of the photographers. Are they known professionals? If you find photographers who have worked with some magazines and designers, then you might have hit the jackpot. Now that agency is something that you can definitely rely on.

Try to check any feedback coming from clients who were able to secure the services of a particular agency. If you find a lot of satisfied clients, then that would also be another indication that the agency is indeed trustworthy, and one that can provide you with good professional photographers.

So take note of some of these tips when you are trying to look for an agency where you will source your photographer.

Baby Steps Towards Becoming a Professional Photographer

Have you ever wondered how come professional photographers are able to capture really great moments and produce images that can make one go “Vavavoom!?” Perhaps, you have already wondered why you can’t find the angle that you need to produce the same look in the photo as that taken by the professional. Well, if you really do want to be a professional like Paul Broben, then now would be the best time to take baby steps towards becoming one.

Buy a good camera.

The first step that you can take is to buy a really good camera. If you can afford a DSLR camera, then that would be good. Such a camera will help you achieve really good shots and when you get to fully understand the host of functionalities contained therein, you will be able to create magical photos. But if you are still starting out and you don’t have a budget for it, then a digital point and shoot camera will do, but just for now, okay?

Talk to professionals.
Get some tips from professional photographers. No one could give you better tips than professionals themselves. Just make sure that you listen carefully. You might be overwhelmed with the tips that you get because for sure, they will be able to provide you with so many.

Practice.

Nothing makes perfection than lots of practice. Being able to practice taking shots, finding the right angles, using camera accessories, gauging perspectives, infusing depth and many more, will certainly help you in your quest to becoming a professional photographer.

Can You Create Professional Shots on Your Own?

Most of the time, people are tempted to take photographs of events on their own. They would buy a DSLR camera, take some photography courses or spend the entire night reading everything about photography. However, this may not work at all.

Photography is not something that you can learn overnight. This is also the primary reason why there are photographers offering their services, just like Norbert Kniat. More than the compensation, one thing that makes professional photographers truly happy is when their clients get to smile the moment the latter cast a glance on the photographs taken.

So here’s what you can do. Try to hone your skills in photography first. If you already have a DSLR camera, with all the appurtenant accessories such as lenses, flash, etc., familiarize yourself with its usage. Know the settings. What works in an indoor setting? What works during nighttime? How about during daytime?

Once you get to master all of these, then you can start practicing so that you can prepare yourself to take those professional shots. You can always start at home. Do portrait photography with your family as your subject. During vacation, do some landscape photography. Every shot that you take can all help you to eventually become a good photographer and be at par with professionals.

Of course, should you decide to pursue a career in photography later on would be an entirely different story. You would need to make more sacrifices than what you would be doing at present. But if it’s your calling, why not?

Understanding Editorial Photography

When one mentions the term, “photography”, the some of the things that would come to mind would include nature shots as well as pictures of models in various poses. This is aside from the selfies and food shots that the modern world has currently indulged itself in. Among professional photographers, however, there is a small group that, unlike that of the niche of Paul Fletcher and the likes which is fashion photography, focus more on opening the eyes of the people to what is really happening in the world. Such kind of photography is what is known as editorial photography.

Editorial photography is considered by many the best way to enter the world of professional photography. One of the most recognized names when it comes to editorial photography is Paul Broben, an award-winning photographer who has been in the industry for more than a decade now. Now, if you are planning to become the next Paul Broben, there are actually a number of things that you might want to keep in mind.

First thing’s first. If you are planning to shoot an image and the article that would be used alongside with it has already been written, it would be to your advantage if you would read first the article. This would give you an idea on how you should capture the photo. In some cases, you might also have to ask how the photo would be used. Keep in mind that there are times when the text would overlap with the image. This might mean you need to have the model placed off-centre.

If you are not sure where the photo would end up, assume that it would be used as a cover of the magazine. That being the case, you have to leave enough space for the magazine header. As opposed to how some photographers likes Paul Fletcher would shoot the models, you might have to constantly shoot yours in a vertical position as it would be harder to land the cover if your image is in a horizontal position.

Since you are shooting for an editorial, you have to make sure that your image is crisp and clear. You might also need to make sure that all your lines are straight so that you would not need to spend a lot of time in post-production. Keep in mind that editorial photography is not much about how you play with the lighting or how you let your creative juice flow. In most cases, the images actually should be more interesting in its raw form. That being the case, you have to make sure that the models you would be selecting for your shoot would know how to work the camera so that very few editing would be done. Some modelling agencies might even allow you to suggest stylists and makeup artists whom you have worked with before, especially if this would help make your look photos better.

If you would be working with someone who is not a model but is actually part of the company or organization you are shooting, you have to make sure that you finish your shoot fast, especially if the model happens to be one of the top bosses.

Fashion Photography 101

Photography is considered to be one of the most profitable hobbies anyone can have. As long as you have a decent camera and you have lots of creative juices, chances are, you would be able to take mean pictures. There are, however, certain photography niches that would require more than just a decent camera and an overflowing creative juice. One such niche is that of fashion photography.

With so many fashion photographers currently in the market, once should expect that breaking through would require more than just dumb luck. Ask such photographers as Freya Elizabeth and George Favios, and you would realize that you need hard work before you can start gaining prominence. While Freya has been a Gold Coast fashion photographer for quite some time now, George Favios, on the other hand, is one of the most celebrated beauty and fashion photographers not only in Australia but in other parts of the world as well.

So how you should go about it? Well, first thing’s first, you have to make sure that you have a model who is also a professional. After all, if the model does not know how to work the camera, you would be left with beautiful but emotionless pictures.

One of the things that you need to do when shooting a model is to make sure he or she is able to connect with the camera. This can be quite hard if you are using a standard camera with a flash. What you can do is have a solid lighting system that would take away the need for a flash. This would help the model be confident in looking straight into your lens.

If you are after an intriguing as well as a sullen look, you might want to consider having the model look away. Professionals in the same category as Freya Elizabeth would warn you though that looking too far away from the camera can backfire as the emotion from the eyes might not be clearly seen by the audience. In some cases, it might even look like the model is trying to cover up some facial imperfection. In case you would be using two models, you might want to consider having the models look at each other. This not only creates emotions but also engaged the viewer into contemplating the story between the two. Of course, in any of these shots, you have to make sure that you play with the lighting especially if you want to create more drama.

Now, once you have the models in place, you might want to be a bit creative and play around with the shots. Instead of going for the traditional setup where the image is at dead center, you might want to have the model on the far edge of the shot. You can also play around with the angle as well as have the model be up and running instead of just waiting for you to take the shot. Depending on why you are shooting the model, you might also want to consider making use of props.

Making Your Event Stand Out

Regardless of the reason for your event, one thing remains certain - its has to be something that your guests would appreciate, at least, for the days to come. Fortunately, currently, there are a number of techniques that you can take advantage of in order to have your event a memorable one.

The first step to making your event memorable is to figure out first what you want the guests to do during the party as well as what your aim is for the event. This would, in turn, help you figure out whether you would need to put a spin on classic party favorites or if you need to come up with more interactive activities. The time of the day when the party would be held is also important. While there are some activities that are suited for the day, there are also those that can be appreciated more if the event starts at the latter part of the evening. Aside from the time, the venue should also match what your party is about.

Once you know what you want to achieve, make sure that you stylized the venue based on this. You can even get the help of the catering services provider when it comes to how the look of the tables should be. Even the food that they would be serving could be tied up to the theme and motif that you have in mind.

If you are holding a formal event where the guests would have to sit down and wait for the entertainment, you might want to consider having musicians around. This could keep them from getting bored and could even be used in order to encourage them to mix around with the other guests. On the other hand, if the event that you are going to have would involve very young guests, you might want to consider getting the services of such providers as Fran Flynn. Fran Flynn is considered to be one of the highly respected magicians in the market today. Having been performing since 1975, Fran has honed his skills so much so that he can perform magic acts right under your nose using just about any object that you can find.

Be sure to give your guests souvenirs which can help remind them of your event. These souvenirs need not be grand but should definitely reflect what the occasion is all about. To make this more special, you can have a different set of gifts for the guests as well as for sponsors and other important people whom you have invited to grace the occasion.

Of course, in order for you to have something to remember the event by, you need to get the services only of the best photographers in town, one of which is Macushla Burke. Macushla Burke is a model turned photographer who is currently turning heads with her ability to capture raw emotions as well as the naturalness of her shots. What’s surprising is that she actually did not have any formal schooling when it comes to photography.
