Top Portrait Photography Tips to Keep In Mind

For most people, portrait photography means sitting still in an uncomfortable position while waiting for the portrait photographer to take his shot. In truth, however, there are different ways a portrait can be shot. If you happen to be the photographer in question, you might want to keep the following in mind.

Altering your perspective and angle is one of the many ways you can make a portrait stand out and be more interesting. Instead of shooting the model standing up, why not try taking a picture of her lying down with the shot taken from atop? Or you might want to try having the model sitting down with her head tilted up and you take the shot from the top.

Sometimes, a picture is all about the eyes of the model. If your model happens to have expressive eyes, you can have him or her look directly into your shutter. You can even have the rest of his or her face covered and just have the eyes in the center of the photo. By looking in another direction, you can also have you shory convey strong emotions, especially if coupled with the proper lighting.

Placing your subject on the edge of the frame with no background whatsoever can also have a dramatic effect. If you do happen to have a background, you can just blur them out in order to have your model stand out. You can even have her in action and take a candid shot in order to convey more emotion.
